John Butler Trio - Canberra Theatre

Last night I went to the Canberra Theatre to photograph the "John Butler Trio". It was the second time I have seen them play, the last being many years ago at the Royal Theatre.
This tour is the first with his new band and they were definately sounding fresh and energetic, even whilst playing some of the older JBT classics.
It was the first time I have photographed at the Canberra Theatre. It was different to say the least. We had free run of pretty much everywhere in front of the stage and in the audience which was nice.
Obviously some of the best shots were to be had from up close. This would have provided a bit of entertainment for the audience, seeing a bunch of photographers crawling around trying to get a shot whilst staying low enough so we didn't get in the way of people sitting in the front row.
"Howling Bells" - ANU Bar
I first photographed the "Howling Bells" back in may of 2007 at The Green Room. (The were being supported at the time by The Whiskey Go Go's and The Temper Trap.) From what I can recall, they were the 2nd band I ever photographed so when I heard that they were coming back to Canberra, I knew I had to go and photograph them again.
This time around they performed at the ANU Bar, where, as usual the lighting wasn't very "photographer friendly". :)
It was a great gig though, Juanita is still an amazing singer and their new songs were fantastic live.

This photo is completely different to my usual style but I liked it a lot.

Snow Patrol @ The Royal Albert Hall (23rd & 25th November)
This week I have had the amazing chance to photograph one of my favourite bands; Snow Patrol while they perform at the Royal Albert Hall. It was a fantastic experience, one that I will never forget.

More photos to come!
Ye Old London Town
Currently I am in the fantastic but rather wet city of London. Tonight and Wednesday I am photographing one of my favourite bands: Snow Patrol. They are currently on their "Reworked" tour around the UK.
This Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, they are performing in one of the most beautiful venues in the world, The Royal Albert Hall.
I can't wait!
Ladyhawke @ The ANU
Tonight, on the eve of me flying to the UK, a rather large crowd had gathered to see "Ladyhawke" perform at the ANU Bar. It was a great gig, which luckily I was able to photograph before flying out.

Down To Devil Gate Drive
Tonight I had the opportunity to photograph Original "Rock Chick"; Suzi Quatro. I can't say I am a massive Suzi fan, but I definately like a couple of her songs and thought it would be fun to pop along to see her live and take some photos.
I wasn't dissapointed, the show was great, she can sing and play the bass brilliantly and definately looks as though she loves playing in Australia. (She has toured here over 25 times!!)

Alice Cooper - Royal Theatre
Tonight I ventured to the Royal Theatre to photograph Alice Cooper on his "Theatre of Death" tour. I have been a fan of Alice's ever since I got a cassette single of "Poison" - one of my all time favourite songs. It was a fantastic production, very theatrical and Alice can still rock rather well.
Got up close and personal and managed to get some great shots of him during the first four songs. A very nice change to the usual three songs that is the norm.

iTunes LIVE: London Festival '09

During July, I had the good fortune to get to see my favourite band; Snow Patrol perform at the iTunes LIVE Festival in London. They were performing as part of a free, month long music festival put on by iTunes at the old "Roundhouse". - A truly amazing venue in it's own right.
Snow Patrol were being supported by one of my other faveourite bands, "Silversun Pickups". It was an awesome night and so much fun seeing the guys perform over in the UK. I didn't have my 30D with me, so I cracked out my trusty IXUS 75 compact and snapped a couple of photos.
"A Look Back" - James Blunt - 4th May 2008
I was looking through my old photos today and found my ones from the James Blunt concert at the Royal Theatre back in May 2008. This was my first international act I had shot for BMA Magazine, borrowing a 70-200mm lens from my friend Lisa.

The Presets - AIS Arena
Tonight I was lucky enough to see The Presets (Julian Hamilton & Kim Moyes) perform once again in Canberra. Last time I got to shoot them was at Foreshore at the start of the year.
This particular gig was originally going to be held at the ANU Bar, but due to the massive amount of interest, it was moved to the AIS Arena and made an "All-Ages Gig". This allowed for many more people to fit in, and the event almost sold out again.
There were so many people there, it was crazy. Everybody looked like they were having a great time though. The guys were fantastic, I stayed on and sat in the chairs after I had finished taking photos and watched the rest of the show.
Julian Hamilton
Kim Moyes - Concentrating hard.
